We arrived at our Beech Mountain, NC home on Tuesday, Nov.21. Some spotty snow lay on the ground, but we brought the Florida warmth and sunshine with us and the snow quickly dissipated. On this trip was Mark and me, our son David and his girlfriend Lauren, plus our 11-year old yorkshire terrier Kelsey. Yorkies are mousers and she saw either a mouse or a chipmunk run under the woodpile and sat on guard for ages, hoping for a chance to pounce and do her job. Never happened. Robert stayed behind, as he couldn't take time from his new job and so he spent Thanksgiving day at his girlfriend's parents home. He promises that next year he will be in NC with the family.
The NC week went by too quickly as usual. I left home very sick with a cold, but the last day I felt a world of difference. Too bad, poor Lauren got the cold and was miserable on the way home. On Thursday, we of course had the big turkey dinner with all the fixings, pumpkin pie, all that stuff. Another day we assembled and installed a new storm door, very fancy with a roll down screen. Although it was really too warm, we had a fire in the fireplace twice because Lauren was looking forward to having s'mores - made with fire cooked marshmallows, a piece of chocolate and then sandwiched between graham crackers. Before departing, I decorated a little for Christmas so the holiday renters arrive to a warm and festive home.
On our way home, we drove about 5 hours and stopped in a hotel overnight, another 5 hours and stopped for a couple of hours at my parents house in Jacksonville, FL, followed by 2 more hours on the road to get home. I have things to put away, mail to plow through, and laundry to wash.
